Rauw Alejandro

Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in 2017 and became the highest-streamed tune within six months. This mix of reggaeton and pop music has not only brought an interest to the genre, but also to Latin music generally. Billboard's Top 100 featured two songs composed in Spanish most of the time, and four others in 2016. When Despacito was at its height, the band's success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily written in Spanish made it to within the top 100. It climbed to 41 by 2020. Justin Bieber's bilingual remake of Despacito was released in 2017. Then, popular artists started collaborating with reggaeton performers. Drake collaborated with Bad Bunny for MIA (2018), and Madonna collaborated with Maluma for Medellin. At the time of 2020, some reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at that the genre was moving towards mainstream but a new generation such as Rauw Alejandro, aimed to continue the evolution of reggaeton. His style often included elements of electronic dance music in addition to other styles.
