In the first season, shippers bid for two shipments on uShip. This is done in a reverse auction format. Bids include a description of the probable costs and risks and the reasons and the capabilities. The job is usually awarded to the lowest bidder after the auction has ended. However, at the discretion of the customer the auction may be offered to a bidder that has received a superior feedback rating from previous clients. In order to break any ties feedback ratings are used. Season 9 has shippers receiving their cargo through a shipping agent. The bidding process isn’t shown. Shippers load their cargos and try to get it delivered in good condition within the timeframe set by the receiver or client. After the load is delivered, customers leave feedback ratings. The total revenue for each shipper, as well as the costs (fuel labor, late delivery penalties) are displayed on screen at the conclusion. The bid amount is subtracted to determine the total loss and profit. Sometimes, shippers will offer to carry additional loads as part of the same trip. The additional amount will be added to the total. In some cases there will be times when the shipper is not able to finish a task due to concerns regarding the weight of the load or the road safety. On occasion, one shipper may enlist the help of a third party to complete the job. The two shippers decide how to split the proceeds. Seasons 1-8 are full of hilarious criticisms from other shippers.
